AI and Data-driven Simulation Forum

and 16th Annual General Assembly of ASCS association

10 July 2024 |  Stuttgart - Böblingen

Vehicle manufacturers and mobility providers face multidimensional challenges, but also new technological and economic opportunities, in the development of intelligent mobility units. Now more than ever, an intelligent virtual development process and short innovation cycles are required to stay competitive with rapidly increasing product complexity. New ways are being explored to handle upcoming trends as well as social, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Despite theories of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have existed since over six decades, the automotive industry is still only at the beginning of the AI disruption. A previously unimagined solution space opens up through the symbiosis of artificial intelligence and simulation in a data-driven development process. Therefore, we would like to give this dynamic research and development area a platform for exchange and discussion within a simulation inspired mobility community.

KEYNOTE
Artificial Intelligence and Simulation: Opportunities, Applications, Best Practices and Regulatory Frameworks

Abstract: Since the release of ChatGPT at the end of 2022, the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been omnipresent. However, AI is much more than the hype behind ChatGPT, because AI aims to automate human decision-making behavior. This talk addresses how to blend AI and simulation: First, simulation allows to generate additional training data for machine learning models. Second, machine learning can be used to reduce the number of costly and lengthy simulations. For example, a computational fluid dynamics simulation that would take days can be replaced by a machine learning model that predicts the outcome within milliseconds. This talk provides concrete examples of both directions. Furthermore, AI has started to not only disrupt individual companies, but the world-wide economy as a whole. This talk also addresses current trends and provides best practices on how to remain competitive by leveraging AI. Last, this talk discusses the European AI Act, how this regulatory framework will impact AI innovation and what companies need to do in order to be compliant.

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Patrick Glauner | Deggendorf Institute of Technology
Vita: Dr. Patrick Glauner is a Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Deggendorf Institute of Technology since age 30. As an expert witness, he advised the parliaments of France, Germany, and Luxembourg. He has been ranked by CDO Magazine among the worldwide academic data leaders. He was previously a Fellow at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Head of Data Academy at Alexander Thamm GmbH, Innovation Manager for Artificial Intelligence at Krones Group, and a visiting researcher at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). He studied at Imperial College London and is an alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
